Wakapunku is one of Cusco's hidden gems: a peaceful spot offering one of the city's most incredible views. Wakapunku is exactly that kind of place.
Free from the noise of the city and filled with a sense of peace, it is a place where you can breathe easily. Formerly used as a watchtower and sanctuary, it now serves as a viewpoint surrounded by nature and steeped in history.
🧭 Where is Wakapunku?
Wakapunku forms part of the Pumamarka Archaeological Park, which is located in the San Sebastián district of Cusco. More specifically, it is in the Kari Grande area.
This peaceful spot is surrounded by nature and is occasionally used for picnics or to escape the hustle and bustle of the city.

🗺️ How do I get to Wakapunku?
There are two ways to get to the venue:
Short Walk
If you plan to walk to this place, you can do so, but first you must get to Kari Grande. To do this, you have two options:
- Take a city bus: Pachacútec or Arco Iris. Both run along Collasuyo Avenue, and you should get off at the Salineras stop, which is right where the Kari Grande area begins.
- Walk to the area from your lodging (obviously, this depends on how close you are and how far you’re willing to walk).
Once you arrive, you’ll see three streets that go uphill; all of them lead to the site. But we recommend taking the first one. After that, you’ll see some stairs that you’ll need to climb.
Note
If you're not used to the climate in Cusco yet, I recommend taking it easy and not pushing yourself too hard.
Once you reach the upper area, head to the left and avoid following the road. Instead, step off the road and you'll find a short path that will take you across to the enclosure.
By private car
You can take a taxi or a private car and take the road that leads to the site.
