Saint Joseph<\/strong> is one of the most important figures in Christianity. He is recognised as the husband of the Virgin Mary and the adoptive father of Jesus. Although he is only mentioned briefly in the Gospels, his life is characterised by faith, responsibility and trust in God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Known as the carpenter of Nazareth<\/strong>, Saint Joseph embodies values such as hard work, humility, and family protection. His example has made him a guiding symbol for many believers throughout the centuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To better understand his significance, it is important to know who he was and what his role was in the story of the Holy Family.<\/p>\n\n\n\t\t\t\t

    Saint Joseph lived in Nazareth<\/strong>, a small town in the Galilee region, where he was part of the Jewish community living under Roman rule. He was a carpenter by trade, which enabled him to support his family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    According to the Gospels of Matthew and Luke, he is mentioned as a descendant of King David. One of the most significant aspects of his life was his relationship with Mary. He was engaged to her when he received the news that she was going to become a mother.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    In light of this, he decided to act prudently and respectfully, as she would have to be tried according to the Law of Moses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The Birth and the Flight<\/h3><\/div>\n\n\n\n

    Saint Joseph was present at the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem. Despite the humble circumstances, he stood by Mary and provided protection at a crucial moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Some time later, Herod the Great ordered the killing of all boys under the age of 12. This prompted Joseph to flee to Egypt with Mary and Jesus. After Herod\u2019s death, the family returned to Nazareth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Joseph is mentioned in the scriptures until Jesus turns 12, suggesting that he died at that age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Although devotion to Saint Joseph was not widespread in the early centuries, it grew over time, particularly in Europe. His image began to appear in churches, paintings and religious celebrations, emphasising his roles as father and worker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The Church gradually recognised his importance. He was declared Patron of the Universal Church<\/strong>, which cemented his place in Christianity, and he is also known as the Patron Saint of carpenters and workers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Devotion to Saint Joseph<\/strong> is also part of the religious calendar in the Cusco<\/strong> region, although it is celebrated more modestly than other, larger-scale festivals. Nevertheless, he remains an integral part of the local tradition and spiritual life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    On 19 March<\/strong>, a Mass, a solemn procession and a tribute by the saint\u2019s devotees take place in the Cusco neighbourhood of Bel\u00e9n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
